Percent change

From A to B: change ÷ where you started.

Every report says "up 23% month over month." Being able to sanity-check that number in your head is a small superpower in meetings.

The move

Change ÷ starting value. Find the difference, divide by where you *started* (not where you ended), then turn it into a percent.

Worked example

Leads went from 80 to 100

  1. Change = 100 − 80 = 20
  2. 20 ÷ 80 = 0.25
  3. = +25%
  • Going 80 → 100 is +25%, but 100 → 80 is only −20%. The starting point changes the answer.
  • Doubling is +100%. Tripling is +200%, not +300%.
